Hi Spec,
All of creation fell, not just mankind. The apostle Paul wrote about it but I can't pin down the scripture verse right now.....BTW, you can ask these 'why is this so' questions forever and they are entirely irrelevant to the question of God's character. He also doesn't have to 'jump through hoops' to justify anything: He's God!

Animals didn't sin so why do they kill each other?
by Spectrum inhow does a benevolent and loving god explain away his ecological system whose very persistence relies on the killing and suffering of animals that have fear and pain receptors and know when they are about to get it?
.
can the personilaty attributes religions have given this god be reconciled with his creation?

Then get back to the subject and quit the whining, Dan:
We see no Jews nor Christians strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up as many innocents as they can. There is no teaching in Judaism or Christianity that says sacrificing yourself and taking enemies with you is even sanctioned, much less a guarantee of heaven.
In Christianity it is up to God to 'settle accounts', not man. Islam is a billion person cult. Their beliefs are cultic and in many ways match the Watchtower and LDS. You have nothing to fear from fundamentalists, if you did we wouldn't be having this conversation. If you lived in the wonderful world of Islam you would NOT be able to get away with whatever it is you do.
I hope for your sake you aren't in western Europe. As the Islamic population expands, they will be seeing the results of pandering to radical fundamentalists. All this whining about diversity and political correctness is going to come back to haunt them. It's ironic that those who are elitists and look down on Christians will probably have to bailed out by a Christian country (again).

Judas Gospel is fictional, just like the 'Da Vinci Code'
by Shining One innashville, tenn. (bp)--the gospel of judas is helpful in understanding early church heresy but should be viewed as false writings and not comparable to the biblical gospels, conservative scholars say.
a group of scholars and translators announced in early april the documents discovery, disclosing the find just before a special about the manuscript aired on the national geographic channel.
national geographic billed it as a "lost gospel.

>Yep like how the world is secretly in the power of invisible spirits trying to deceive us through evil plots like evolution and critical scholarship.
No secret there at all. The powers, thrones and dominions are very active. Look at the ruinous acts in the world and tell me they aren't! Christians don't object to 'critical scholarship', they refute biased scholarship amd artificial limits that some insist on....
Just like the Jesus Seminar, you entirely rule out some of the most observed and testified evidence so you can come to your own presupposed conclusions.

> In translation they wouldn't even want to consider something like it because it is againtst their established belief system
Kinda like the many here who have so quickly and easily acquired the 'naturalist' belief system that takes more faith to believe than most religions.

Free,
>It has been fun watching the Christians try to dance around this one.
If you had actually read any of this you would realize that the Gospel of Judas is a third century fraud. No one has to 'dance around' fiction.

It's too bad that you so confirm everything they have been told about apostates. They are actually better off than you are. At least they have some scriptural impact on their lives. You don't realize that you have fallen into the 'default mode' set up in cults: once you find out the falsehoods you lose all faith. That's the weak and easy way out of responsibility...for now.

Pete,
You must really believe all of the leftist fringe garbage. What do you do, accept anything counter to orthodoxy automatically? Ahh, but then JW habits die hard!

Good comments as usual, Leolaia. I take issue with part of it though.
>orthodoxy developed as a response to these dissident sects. For those who study the history of religion, it takes its place among other parabiblical texts that shed light on the history of Christianity.
Orthodoxy developed a response, (just like they did for any other heresy) they did not develop as a result of or to heresy. See the difference? The foundational beliefs were well established within a few years of Calvary. You can see that in the epistles and the later gospel accounts. Heresies did forced more detailed explanations as time went on. The earliest testimony of the gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and Paul had already traveled to speak to the other apostles still in Jerusalem to make sure that they were on the same page.
>Similarly, it is impossible to understand intertestamental Judaism (i.e. of the second century BC) without examining works such as 1 Enoch and the Qumran sectarian documents which are incredibly informative about what people believed at the time. But since the layperson is generally not interested in such things, the media often does not emphasize its true historical importance...
Yes, I agree with that to a certain extent but you must also realize that Qumran was cloistered and separatist sect. They differed from the pharisees and (of course) the saducees. I believe there is some manuscript evidence of an early gospel in one of the finds? Anyways, the average person likes to hear about mysterious goings on and conspiracies.
People try to accuse the apostles of some kind of conspiracy but that doesn't 'wash' because they would not die for a lie-true or not they did believe to have seen the risen Lord. Chuck Colson has a good analogy of this in his book, "Born Again".

Dan,
Was I not honest enough for you? BTW, your problem is with God, not with me. I simply told you what the scripture says.
